Rhythm Skool is a Skool community run by drummer Dave Smith that trains musicians of all instruments and levels in rhythm and timekeeping.[1][2] The group was created in August 2025.[1] For six years, from 2012 to 2018, Smith toured and recorded as part of Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, a period that included two albums released on Nonesuch Records.[2]

About Rhythm Skool

The training builds rhythm starting from the body, through stepping, clapping, vocalising and music.[1] It draws on his Triangle of Inner Pulse method (Step, Clap, Say), which teaches musicians of any instrument to develop a body-based internal pulse.[2] New members can take a 7-day free trial of the group.[1]

Smith also founded the Dave Smith Rhythm Academy, and since 2021 his focus has been rhythm education through the academy and Rhythm Skool.[2] His offer includes intensive programs, weekly group coaching and personalised video feedback.[2] As a co-leader of both Fofoulah and Outhouse Ruhabi, he has mixed European jazz with West African Sabar drumming, and in 2005 he co-founded the Loop Collective to champion original and improvised music.[2]
