Research Career Club is a Skool community that is free to join, with paid tiers inside, for researchers who want to get published in the journals that matter, be read beyond their own field and build a career past the next grant cycle.[1] It was created in August 2025 by Dawid Hanak, a working professor, and is promoted on the site of Hanak's Motivated Academic brand.[1][2] The teaching covers publishing strategically in journals that raise a researcher's profile, communicating work to those who might fund it, cite it or hire its author, and building a personal brand that draws collaborations and keynote invitations.[1]

About Research Career Club

Members get weekly learning from researchers who are publishing papers and a monthly Q&A with Hanak.[1] Motivated Academic, aimed at PhD students and early-career researchers, also sells a Paper Writing Masterclass and offers a free ebook on ways to share research and a free weekly blog.[2] Hanak told Connected Places Catapult that Motivated Academic started in the pandemic as a way to pass on advice to people who might have been feeling isolated by Covid.[3]

At Teesside University's Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre, Hanak holds the post of Professor of Decarbonisation.[3] Hanak's consulting practice helps companies, SMEs and research consortia with Net Zero analysis, including feasibility studies, life cycle assessment, techno-economic assessment, and process modelling and design, and trains academics and consultants to carry out feasibility assessments.[4][5] Hanak has also done a Researchers in Residence placement at Connected Places Catapult, working on decarbonising train stations, and sits on the editorial board of the Clean Energy Journal with Oxford University Press.[3]
