About Guiding Cooperation

Parents learn gentle parenting by working with their own and their child's nervous systems, using tools meant to nurture the parent's nervous system and the child's capacity to cooperate.[1][3] The approach combines educational neuroscience, social emotional learning and child development with experience in relationship-based parenting, speech and language therapy and behavior management.[3][4] Dr. Chelsey offers courses and coaching in English and Spanish, and parents can book a complimentary parenting consult with the team.[1][4][5]

Positive Parenthood was founded by Dr. Robin Hauge, a speech pathologist, and Dr. Chelsey Hauge Zavaleta is its co-founder.[4] The program began more than 20 years ago: in 2000, Robin Hauge started teaching a 12-week course to parents asking for support with behavior, running it once a year.[4] The company also offers a free training for parents of sensitive or neurodivergent children, and lists Wellspring Educational Services and Soul Shoppe as organisations that offer its parenting courses to their own communities.[2][3]

Positive Parenthood states that it does not guarantee success in its training, and that the training is general in nature, with some strategies not appropriate for all individuals or all situations.[2]
