About Tree School

O'Brien has been on the adult education faculty of the New York Botanical Garden since 2021, the year he also began giving public and private tree tours in NYC.^[3] He gives talks and classes at arboretums and botanical gardens, including Tree Health and Structure, Tree ID 101 and Tree Anatomy and Physiology, and consults on trees, gardens and properties for private clients.^[4] He previously consulted as an arborist on the NYC Parks street tree program, then worked as a Lead Consulting Utility Forester.^[3]

He began teaching online on Instagram in 2023 and posts YouTube Shorts and longer videos, including nature walks and extended lessons.^[5] Patreon supporters get early access to videos, extra articles and a monthly zine, Dendrolog.^[5]
