About Jazz Violin Academy

Members get video lessons covering improvisation, harmony, swing and ear training, along with practice guides, backing tracks and sheet music.[1] Monthly workshops bring in international guest artists, online jam sessions run over JackTrip, and Slongo and the team hold live Q&A sessions and give personalized coaching.[1]

Slongo is a jazz violinist, singer and pedagogue whose YouTube channel carries concert videos, clips from her jazz violin projects and lessons.[2] She appears on stages in Europe and North America, and together with Jimmy Grant and the Voyage HotClub collective she plays a mix of classical music, gypsy jazz and original compositions.[3] Her artist website, evaslongo.com, describes the academy as an online school that brings together sheet music, a course platform of video lessons and her method for improvisation and jazz violin, whether starting out or refining, alongside private lessons, group classes and occasional workshops.[3]

Her teaching site, apprendre-le-violon-jazz.com, centres on improvisation, and her method, called The New Way to Learn Swing on the Violin, adapts rhythmic exercises used by drummers.[4] The site gives away a Jazz Violin Kit with access to the community platform, three lessons from the method and a PDF, Improvisation for beginner violinists.[4] It lists masterclasses at festivals including the Torino Jazz Festival and the Grappelli-Django Camp, and a visiting professorship at the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood.[4]
