About Hook Music
Users pick a track or viral clip, layer in video and remix effects, then post the result to Hook, drop it in a Jam or share it on other social platforms.[2] Jams group music around genres, artists, moods, places or topics.[2] The app works from a licensed song library and is free to start.[2] Its Hook Studio lets users choose up to a 30-second clip of a licensed song to remix, and finished hooks can be shared to TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp and other apps.[3]
Gaurav Sharma, previously chief operating officer of the India-focused streaming service JioSaavn for over five years, started Hook in 2021 and is its founder and CEO.[3][4] TechCrunch covered the company in October 2023, before launch, as building an app to let users make legal remixes of tracks for social media, and noted that it did not aim to let people export MP3 tracks.[4] Its leadership team then also included Chief Product Officer Simmi Singh.[4] The app launched on iOS on 25 September 2024, with a stated aim of making sure artists and others involved in a track are fairly compensated for remixes.[3] Hook later announced a partnership with Universal Music Group to expand fan creativity across social media.[3]
